Preserved Document

Reflections of Ronald Schmidt (1927-2019)

A collection of writings preserved as they were written.

Context

Stories typed out in his own words, one at a time.

Ronald Schmidt was the son of Kenneth "Big Daddy" Oswald Schmidt and the father of Gregory Schmidt. He grew up during the Depression on a small place in Nebraska with his brother Dick and his sister Marge, and he joined the Navy near the end of the Second World War, arriving in Hawaii in September 1945 and shipping on to Okinawa that fall.

The stories here were typed individually, each one titled and finished with a small mark at the end. They were kept together with letters and loose papers that came down with them.

The original document has been preserved in its entirety, including pages written by others that were kept alongside his.
